Before Surgery
Make sure you are well prepared:
- Stop using alcohol, aspirin products and anti-coagulation medication (in consultation with your GP) two weeks before surgery.
- Make sure you arrange for someone to pick you up after your surgery (you will not be allowed to drive yourself).
- It is very important you are cared for by a responsible adult for the first 24 hours following surgery.
- Arrange for adequate time off work and social engagements.
- Overseas patients, please allow for enough time 'in the area' for early follow up.
On the day of Surgery
- You will need to be 'nil by mouth' prior to your surgery.
- If your operation is scheduled for the morning, do not eat or drink after midnight the night before. If your surgery is in the afternoon you can eat a light breakfast before 8.00 a.m.
- Bring all your medication, that you have taken or need to take, with you to Mediclinic.
- Remove contact lenses and wear glasses.
- Wear comfortable clothes without jewellery.
- Remove all make-up from face, eyes, lips and neck.
- Remove all nail varnish from your fingers and thumb.
A member of our staff will contact you a few days before surgery to make sure you are well prepared and answer any questions you may have.
